Gerald Wayne Blundell (Gerry), 89, passed away on November 21, 2020 in Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, ON following a 2-week struggle with multiple complications from congestive heart failure and pneumonia.
Gerry was born Jan. 12, 1931 in Brantford, ON. Predeceased by his sweetheart of 50 years, Nellie (Johnson) Blundell. Beloved father of Debra Blundell of Kitchener, ON and Michael (Marilou) Blundell and their daughters, Ellie and Emily of Abbotsford, BC. Lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Predeceased by parents Charles and Eva (Crandall) Blundell; sister and brother-in law, Shirley and Bill Russell; brother and sister-in-law, George Blundell and Sandy Carr; and brother-in-law, Keith Martin.
Gerry met Nellie in Chatham, ON, lived primarily in Kitchener during his career, retired to the Sarnia area for 12 years, then lived the last 4 years in Collingwood.
Gerry worked in Life Insurance and Financial Planning at Mutual Life, Dominion Life and Manulife Financial in KW. He volunteered for the KW Sertoma Club, the KW Rotary Crippled Children’s Centre (now KidsAbility), and the Independent Living Centre of Waterloo Region. With a zest for life and people that inspired many, Gerry enjoyed visiting family and friends, cottaging at Pike Bay, downhill skiing, badminton, tennis, traveling and theatre.
Cremation has taken place by Kitchener Funeral Homes and Crematorium. and a celebration of Gerry’s life will occur when it is safer to do so. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to KidsAbility, Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
