Obituary for Grant William Schafer
SCHAFER, Grant "William"
It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Grant William Schafer announces his passing on September 16, 2019 at the age of 69 at St. Mary's Hospital in Kitchener, surrounded by the love of his family.
He will be forever missed by his daughters, Nataliya and Alixandriya Schafer; their mother, Janet Schafer (née Currie); his mother, Marta Schafer (née Janzen); and his grand-dog, Bo. Predeceased by his brother, Glen (2018), and father, Stanley (1999).
Grant was called to the bar in 1978 after graduating from the University of Western Ontario with an Honours Bachelor of Laws degree and Waterloo Lutheran University with an Honours BA in Sociology & Philosophy in 1973. He practiced criminal, family, and child protection law for 40 years in Kitchener and was a well-respected attorney. Grant had a great love for music and literature, a passion for what he did, and a fantastic sense of humour.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation to be held from 3 - 4 p.m. on October 17, 2019 at the Waterloo Region Courthouse at 85 Frederick St, Kitchener. Memorial and eulogies to follow.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to St. Mary's Cardiac Care Centre would be appreciated. In the spirit of Grant's good humour and his tendency to never throw things away, attendees are asked to wear the oldest necktie or piece of jewelry that they own.
