Mohinder Kaur Sahota, 1942-2021, passed peacefully surrounded by her family in Kitchener, Ontario on April 23, 2021. Raised in Nawanshahr District, Punjab, India, she spent her childhood playing in her father’s fields and helping her mother out at home. Her father passed away early in her childhood, bringing her closer to her mother, four sisters, and younger brother.
In 1962, she married Sardar Balvir Singh in District Jalandhar where they settled in a small village near Gorayan. Over the years she gave birth to a girl, and two sets of twins, all of whom passed within their first days. Her prayers finally came true when she gave birth to her two daughters and two sons. She spent most of her life close to Gorayan as a housewife and mother.
In 2005, she moved to Toronto, Canada and rebuilt her home with her sons and husband, but made sure to frequently visit her home and daughters in India. When she passed she left behind her eleven grandchildren who loved her dearly.
Tenderhearted, wise, courageous, forgiving, selfless, virtuous, benevolent and a saint. She loved others unconditionally and was admired by those she crossed paths with. She put others first and experienced pure joy in the company of her grandchildren. She had an excitement for life even during her oldest years. She lived simply and took pleasure in the little things in life.
Along with being diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer in her 70s, she fought many illnesses throughout her life time, but she never lost her courage. Her family, but most importantly her faith, kept her going. Her children can only hope they served her half as well as she served her children. The final chapters of her life were filled with love, celebration, family and happiness.
Although we wish to have a few more minutes, feel the warmth of your gentle embrace, hear your laughter one last time, it gives us peace to know you have been liberated from earthly cares and reunited with God.
We are grateful for the time God has given us with her.
A remembrance of Mohinder Kaur’s life will be held at 11 am, Monday April 26, at Kitchener Funeral Homes & Crematorium Inc. .
