Obituary for Monica Bridget Toiviainen (Doyle)

Monica Bridget Toiviainen (nee Doyle) passed away in her 88th year peacefully in her home in Waterloo, Ontario Canada surrounded by family on December 29, 2022 at 7:35pm.

Born in Dublin, Ireland in 1934 and pre-deceased by her parents Patrick Joseph and Margaret Doyle (nee Devereux). Twin sister to Claire (John Markey), dear sister to Patrick (Mary), Kevin (Eileen), Betty (Patrick), Nancy (Sean) and survived by Margaret (Beebe) Doyle- Sister Johanna de St. Gertrude of Little Sisters of the Poor in Waterford, Ireland.

Beloved wife to Lauri O. Toiviainen (1940) in 1970. They settled in Toronto and had 4 children between them. Dear mother to Patricia Toiviainen-Moberg (Lester Moberg), Stepmother from a very young age to Teija Toiviainen, (Andrew Wheeler), Peter Toiviainen, and Mervi Toiviainen (Richard Sergas). Loved Grandmother to Ariel Wheeler (19), Travis Moberg (21), Brett Moberg (23), and Bryan Moberg (25).

Monica came to Canada in 1968 and had enjoyed her career as a florist and running her own floral business. She also loved spending time on Moira Lake at the family cottage near Madoc, Ontario. She loved going home to Ireland and spending time with her ever growing family, and kept strong by her Roman Catholic faith. Monica and Lauri moved to Waterloo, Ontario in 2014.

As per Monica`s wishes, a cremation will take place on January 3, 2023, with a memorial  service on a later date

“May the road rise to meet you, may the wind be at your back, may the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of his hand- and may you be in heaven a half an hour before the devil knows you`re dead”.
