Obituary for Robert James Smail
Robert James Smail (Nov. 23, 1945- Sept. 04, 2021)
We regret to announce the passing of Robert J. Smail, in Waterloo, ON. Robert (Bob) was born in Sioux Lookout, ON and spent his early life in North-western Ontario. He then settled with his family in Mount Forest, ON, subsequently moving to the Kitchener-Waterloo area.
One of Bob’s greatest joys was staying at the Smail family farm in Dromore, ON. Since a very early age, Bob was an avid NHL fan, especially of the “Original Six”, with the Detroit Red Wings his all-time favourites.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Corporal James C. Smail and Mary H. (Millar) Smail. He is survived by sisters Jean Fisher (Robert) of Fredericton NB, and Marilyn Funston (Jeffrey) of Kitchener, ON. He is also survived by his Aunt Brenda Millar of Winnipeg MN, and several cousins, a niece and nephews, and great nieces and a great-nephew spread across the country
Cremation has taken place, and interment is planned for late spring 2022
