Obituary for Shirley Patricia McCann (Smith)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Patricia McCann on March 6, 2021 at the age of 83, after succumbing to ongoing health issues related to diabetes and finally a COVID diagnosis immediately before passing. She had been in the hospital for several weeks awaiting placement in a nursing home.

Shirley was the proud and cherished mother to Brenda (Clint), Debbie (Eric), Danny (Darby), and Casey (Cheryl) a proud and beloved grandmother and great-grandmother, and a proud and beloved aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by brothers Joe and Stan, and sisters (Eunice, Pearl, Pauline, Barbara, Marlena), and granddaughter Melissa. She is survived by sisters Doreen and Beverly, and brothers Doug and Allan.

Shirley was a strong and independent single mother who supported her family by building careers in banking and bookkeeping. She was also proud of her service in the Army Reserves. She had an unwavering faith in God and was active throughout the years volunteering for Church groups and the Royal Canadian Legion. She had a great sense of adventure that took her on trips to the Caribbean, Mexico, Australia, and in Canada from Newfoundland to B.C.. She was unafraid of facing life and all of its challenges.

Shirley will be greatly missed by her family and her Cambridge community.

At Shirley’s request, there will be no viewing or visitation. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date when family and friends are able to gather together.

We invite Shirley's friends and family to celebrate her life by sharing their memories and tributes on Facebook and/or at: www.kitchenerfuneralhome.com

As expressions of sympathy, donations to Diabetes Canada or the Kidney Foundation of Canada would be appreciated.
